PDI Support Instructor Training
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
The Training Course
Don't think that the training is complex or hard,
it's not. You can already drive and hopefully you
haven't developed too many bad habits. You will
already know what you have to teach your pupils. Our
job is simply to build on your existing knowledge
and skills to structure the lessons professionally
and to help you with the technicalities of teaching.
PDI Support trainers have over twenty years of
experience and are ready to help you on your career
to becoming a Driving Instructor.
The training course has four elements:
• Theory (part 1):
a home study course structured so that you can
complete most of it in your spare time at home. We
can supply you with all the books you require along
with a DVD and CD Rom to help you with your Theory
test. The exam consists of 100 multiple choice
questions on subjects ranging from The Highway Code,
general knowledge and car control, to basic
mechanical questions, instructional techniques, the
law, disabilities and questions on the driving test.
There is also a hazard perception test at the end of
the theory test, this is a virtual drive on the
computer where you have to recognise potential
hazards and react quickly. The test is conducted in
Theory Test Centres throughout the UK. Tests can be
booked for either weekdays or weekends.
• Driving (part 2):
a practical driving course to develop your own
driving to the professional level required for the
Advanced DSA Instructor Driving test. On the Part 2
practical test you will be asked to demonstrate you
can drive in the style that you will teach your
pupils. There is no commentary required, just a
return to the basics of good safe driving. You will
be expected to carry out various manoeuvres, as
would a learner driver. The main difference between
a Part 2 test and a pupil's driving test is that you
will be limited to six minor errors. Part 2 tests
are conducted at designated Driving Test Centres
throughout the UK.
• Teaching (part 3):
A comprehensive practical course to train you in the
art of teaching others to drive and to introduce you
to the real job of running a successful diary. The
Part 3 practical test lasts for 1 hour. The examiner
will set you a task to teach a pupil at a particular
standard, and he/she will use role-play, acting the
part of the pupil. Once you have briefed the 'pupil'
on the subject, you will then be expected to spot
any mistakes, explain the reasons behind them, and
to suggest remedial action in order to prevent
recurrence. Above all, the examiner is looking for
you to come across as friendly, patient,
knowledgeable and understanding.
• Working:
Where you join a school and start teaching pupils.
Most of your study during the first two stages
can be completed in your own spare time and we
recommend that you continue with your current job to
keep you going over this period. We will try arrange
the training sessions to suit your availability.
Start-up
One of the key features of training with PDI
Support is that you do not have to invest in large
sums of money up front*. With PDI Support’s training
programme you can pay for your training “as you go”
and train at your own pace. As opposed to other
companies who will split your training session
between two pupils or more, your training will be
conducted on a 1-2-1 basis allowing your trainer to
give you his undivided attention. As soon as you
have completed the Part Two Driving Exam you can, if
you want, start work on a ‘Trainee
Licence’ with a reputable driving school, and
this can be as quickly as 3 to 4 months of starting
the course. The Trainee Licence allows you to
continue working whilst training for your final
exam, allowing you to start earning money as soon as
possible. Your training continues throughout this
period as a series of weekly training sessions that
focus on developing a profitable diary and preparing
you for Part 3 practical test. This is where your
choice of training with the PDI Support starts
paying real dividends.
*a refundable deposit of £250 is
